Monday 13th September 2010 Time: 9.30 - 2.30pm This six week course will provide learners with a deeper understanding of autism and how it affects people. Sessions will cover: Understanding Autism Spectrum Conditions Sensory Processing and Sensitivity differences in Autism Communication Social Interaction Making Sense of Behaviour Practical Strategies/Visual Structure Learning Outcomes: At the end of the course learners will: Have a better understanding of the impact autism spectrum conditionsand the difficulties encountered by those affected Have explored the links between the triad of impairments/differences, sensory issues and behaviour Be more confident in meeting the needs of someone with an ASC Be able to identify and employ practical strategies to reduce anxiety and facilitate learning The course is for professionals, support workers, employers and parents/carers; in fact anyone who works with, lives with or supports a child, young person or adult with an autism spectrum condition.
